Philip Bullivant has been a valued member of Advanced Archery’s Shooting Staff for many years, and is a highly respected NZBS Master Bowhunter. One of Philips tasks is to field test equipment – we really want to know what our shooting staff think of new products. We put some G5 Tekan’s in his hands and this what he thinks of them:
For the last eight months I have been field testing these broadheads on big game animals. Over this period I have developed quite a liking for these robust little mechanical type heads. The main blades are held in place with an O-Ring in flight but open easily on impact to cut a respectable one and one-eighth hole in whatever it hits. They shoot the same as a field point so accuracy is maintained throughout to give full confidence in each shot taken. Over the test period I was lucky enough to take a number of animals including two red deer spikers, two red deer hinds and a fourteen point fallow buck. All hits were complete pass throughs, the shots ranged from twenty metres to forty-five metres and the greatest distance travelled after impact was eighty metres. Three of the animals shot went less than forty metres. This has convinced me enough to be able to recommend these broadheads to anyone in the market for a good strong mechanical type head well able to cope with any of our big game animals. These broadheads are available from Advanced Archery and come in one hundred and one hundred and twenty-five grain weights. Try some out and reap the rewards.
My next task is to field test the G5 Montec. This is a fixed three blade head that looks well capable of pleasing those who prefer this type of broadhead. Keep and eye out for my report back on the G5 Montec at a later date.
Yours in Hard Hunting,
